Sparkling wine is alcoholic and can trigger gout flares. Best to avoid it entirely.
Sparkling wine, like all alcoholic beverages, poses a significant risk for people with gout. Alcohol consumption increases purine metabolism, raising uric acid levels in the blood. It also promotes dehydration, which concentrates uric acid and can precipitate crystals in joints. Even moderate amounts (one or two glasses) may trigger acute gout flares in susceptible individuals. For gout management, complete avoidance of sparkling wine is strongly recommended. If you choose to drink occasionally, limit to one serving (about 5 ounces) and drink plenty of water to offset dehydration. However, given the strong link between alcohol and gout attacks, skipping it altogether is safest.
