Gerber Baby Toddler Bananas Stage 2

Safe

This is a single-ingredient pureed banana product with no added sugars, alcohol, or preservatives. Bananas are a very low-purine food, producing roughly 57 mg of uric acid per 100 g, well within safe limits for gout management. The natural fructose content is moderate, but clinical consensus—including the ACR 2020 guideline, the Austrian Society of Rheumatology 2022 recommendations, and a 2024 JAMA Network Open study—consistently finds that whole fruit and fruit purees (as opposed to fruit juices) do not increase gout risk. The fiber, vitamin C, and potassium in the whole-fruit matrix help offset any mild uricogenic effect of fructose. Most experts recommend up to 1–2 bananas (or equivalent puree) per day as part of a balanced, gout-friendly diet. This product is particularly well-suited for gout patients because it contains no added sugars or high-fructose corn syrup, unlike many other packaged fruit products.

Good

Very low purine content; provides vitamin C (modest urate-lowering effect), potassium (supports kidney uric acid excretion), and fiber (slows sugar absorption); no added sugars; whole-fruit matrix is clinically safe compared to fruit juices.

Bad

Contains natural fructose, which in isolation can increase uric acid production; however, the whole-fruit matrix and moderate serving size make this a non-issue for most people with gout. Those with poorly controlled uric acid and concurrent kidney disease or diabetes may wish to consult their healthcare provider for individualized guidance.
