A sweet cocktail of peach schnapps and orange juice; moderation is key for gout.
A Fuzzy Navel is a classic cocktail made with peach schnapps and orange juice, typically served over ice. For people with gout, the main concern is the high fructose content from the orange juice, which can increase uric acid production and reduce its excretion . The alcohol in the schnapps, while lower in purines than beer, can still impair uric acid excretion and promote dehydration, increasing flare risk . The drink is also high in sugar, which can contribute to metabolic issues that worsen gout. If you choose to have one, keep it to a single serving, use freshly squeezed orange juice (which has more vitamin C and less added sugar), and drink plenty of water. Avoid it entirely during a flare or if your uric acid levels are poorly controlled.
