Fruit Cocktail

Canned fruit cocktail is generally acceptable for gout in moderation due to its low purine content, but the syrup packing is concerning. Most canned fruit cocktails are packed in heavy or light syrup (added sugar), which can raise insulin levels and reduce uric acid excretion. The high fructose corn syrup in many brands is a particular concern, as fructose metabolism directly increases uric acid production. If the fruit cocktail is canned in its own juice or water, it's a much better choice. The fruit itself (peaches, pears, grapes, cherries) is low in purines, and cherries may even be beneficial for gout.
