Black Beans And White Rice

With moderation

Black beans are a moderate-purine plant food, but studies show plant purines do not increase gout risk the same way animal purines do. White rice is low in purines and safe. However, the combination may be a concern due to the high carbohydrate load of white rice, which can spike insulin levels and reduce uric acid excretion. Additionally, black beans are rich in fiber and folate, which may help lower uric acid. Overall, this dish can be part of a gout-friendly diet in sensible portions, but should not be a daily staple due to the refined carbohydrate content.

Good

Black beans provide fiber, folate, and plant-based protein with no animal purine load. Folate may help lower uric acid. The combination is a staple in many cuisines and can be a healthy plant-based meal option.

Bad

Black beans contain moderate amounts of purines (though plant-derived purines are less problematic). White rice is a refined carbohydrate with a high glycemic index, which can raise insulin levels and may decrease uric acid excretion. Large portions of white rice could be problematic for gout management.
