Combines alcohol (beer/liquor) with coffee, a double trigger for gout flares.
An alcoholic coffee drink typically combines coffee (or espresso) with beer, wine, or spirits. For gout, alcohol is the key concern—especially beer, which is rich in purines and directly raises serum urate, while all alcohol impairs kidney uric acid excretion . Caffeine in coffee acts as a mild diuretic and may contribute to dehydration, which concentrates uric acid in the blood and raises flare risk.
If you choose to drink, limit intake to one standard alcoholic beverage occasionally, avoid beer, and drink plenty of water to offset fluid loss. Consider skipping the alcohol entirely and having plain coffee instead—it has been associated with lower gout risk in observational studies . People with frequent flares or high urate levels should avoid this mixed drink altogether.
